The editorial desk handles anything published without an individual byline, including policy pages and standing explainers. It is responsible for the corrections log and for checking that every claim in a published article traces to a cited source.
The research desk works from primary documents — filings, official statistics, court records and published papers — and is accountable for the accuracy of citations across the site. Named individual authors verify their own work; the research desk is the second pair of eyes before publication.
